Bubble Recipe

If you have children like mine, that LOVE blowing bubbles on a nice day, you may be interested in this recipe. I purchased a quart of bubbles from the store and they lasted two days. So instead of buying the store out to supply my kids with bubbles for the summer, I found an inexpensive recipe to make our own.

1 cup Dawn or Joy dish detergent (liquid)
1 gallon water
1 Tablespoon glycerin or corn syrup (corn syrup will attract more bees, glycerin is with the skin care items at Fred Meyers)

Add water to container, then dish detergent. Mix. Add glycerin. Mix. It will get better as it sits over time. You may add food coloring or extracts for scent and color, but beware, it may cause staining. You can experiment with the amounts to get the bubbles just how you like them.

With the bottle of Dawn I purchased and the glycerin, I have enough to make about 3 gallons of bubbles. All for $5.

The Dollar Tree has some big wands already, so buy early before they sell out.

Some creative and fun ways to blow bubbles: shaped pipe cleaners, cookie cutters, yogurt lids with the middle cut out, for really BIG bubbles, small hula hoops are great if you can figure out what to dip it in.

Have fun!!

  2. Wonderful ideas! Bubble making is so fun. The hula hoop idea is fun--maybe we'll have to pour bubble solution into the plastic pool ;)
